Construction Products Manager

I. Summary:

Life Science Products, Inc. (LSP), an employee-owned company, has been providing interior Wall, Floor, Ceiling, Door and Wall Protection products to the Medical Science and Technology Research Field for over 40 years. Our proven solutions are used by the most highly respected Government, Private and Public Medical Research Institutions in the U.S. and Canada. LSP also offers a full range of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) for lab research personnel. Company sales totals are divided approximately evenly between construction products and PPE. We are currently seeking a Construction Manager for our Construction division. Reporting to the CEO, the position carries ultimate responsibility for overall management and performance of the Construction Products Group. Controls manpower, supplies and equipment used in the two primary department divisions of carpentry and resinous flooring. Responsible for participation in all phases of evaluating, securing, scheduling, performing installations, safety, quality control, and job costing on all LSP projects. Handles the construction divisions personnel issues including development and enforcement of policy, information exchange, and employee training, development and performance review. The right individual must have a keen attention to detail and possess clear communication aptitudes, including strong oral and written skills. II. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides sales and marketing technical support which may from time to time include:
    • Performs pre-bid site visits, or provides advice over the phone to sales staff, to assist sales in determining work scope and technical input.
    • Visit job sites after project completion to address any post installation concerns.
  • Responsible for all phases of job performance from initial notification of award through successful project completion.
  • Responsible for hiring and maintaining adequate personnel including identifying proper skills required, orientation, training, compliance with company policies, disciplinary actions, corrective actions, and terminations.
  • Responsible for review of all awarded projects to assure that the scope of work meets with expected job conditions. Accomplish the task through personal visits or by reviewing conditions with appropriate field personnel and foremen.
  • Ensures contact with end users or contractors for scheduling dates and to assure that field conditions (moisture, slab, environmental, etc) and mechanical and electrical requirements are in place are addressed prior to job start.
  • Responsible for initiating work scope changes if problems occur or field conditions change.
  • Assign appropriate personnel to projects for maximum efficiency and technical performance.
  • Ensures orders have been placed and appropriate material and equipment are available to perform projects.
  • Performs discretionary job site visits to assure that high quality is achieved, and company and safety procedures are being followed.
  • Provides technical support to field personnel as necessary.
  • Performs job completion walk throughs’ as required.
  • Strong collaboration with sales, admin support staff and contractors.
  • Coordinates change order requirements (variance from work scope) with appropriate administrative personnel such as sales or estimating.
  • Responsible for the accurate collection of job cost data on labor, materials, and other expenses.
  • Responsible for overseeing the maintenance and safe operation of all company owned vehicles and equipment. Ensures appropriate records are maintained.
  • Responsible for ensuring all employees in the division comply with all company policies and procedures.

III. Skilled Requirements:

  • Some college level training or at least 5 years’ experience in project management and coordination.
  • Technical support and field experience required, along with the ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, and architectural details.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and insurable MVR which must be maintained.
  • Leadership, management or supervisory experience required with past experience demonstrating ability to handle multiple tasks and high organizational ability.
  • Experience with computer scheduling, spreadsheet and word processing required.
  • Able to work in construction conditions that can be dusty, noisy and have temperatures that are not mechanically controlled
  • Ability to operate independently and with a team in an office atmosphere.
  • Interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Time management; organization and strong multitasking skills are required.

IV. Skilled Requirments:

Leads the CP group towards efficient and timely project completion. Expected to build teamwork and cooperation both within the Construction Products Group and in all areas of interaction with other company departments such as accounting, purchasing, estimating, and sales. Provide leadership and training to maximize the development and professionalism of the CP group personnel. Utilizes good supervisory and management skills to ensure clear communication and resolve problems quickly and efficiently. Acts a liaison between the end user, general contractor and company sales, employees, and other divisions of the company. Maintains professional conduct while representing the company and ensures professional conduct is maintained by others within supervisory scope.  

IV. Work Hours and Traveling:

Travel may be required to preview jobs and provide accurate measurements. Workdays begin as early as 5:00am depending on project requirements.  Work is in a general warehouse and construction site atmosphere.
